In summer 2011, IBI's Board of Directors conducted a day and a half strategic planning session that involved IBI's diverse board in plotting likely futures to expect in the next two to three years and charting IBI's strategic and program responses. Several Board representatives participated in a pre-conference panel at the 2012 IBI/NBCH Health and Productivity Forum. Not only was the panel well-received, but it also generated numerous requests for a description of the process and how such a diverse group was managed to have everyone on the same page for a vision of IBI's future. To provide that guidance, this Research Insight describes the future scenario planning process and sketches out the types of suggestions that resulted to offer guidance to members that may wish to conduct a similar exercise.
