Employers increasingly recognize the patient-centered medical home (PCMH) as a means to improve workforce health and control healthcare costs. They need, however, consensus on the metrics to use to evaluate the impact of health and healthcare on quality, outcomes, cost, and workforce productivity. Using case studies and employer experience, the authors present the employer perspective on a variety of metrics categories for evaluating investment in PCMH programs and other health-related interventions. Also included is a discussion of the likely time period within which results might be expected for the various metrics suggested.
