It is clear that new approaches to employee health and the management of benefits programs are necessary for employers to maximize the effectiveness of their healthcare expenditures. But, few employers have the data across programs to begin to chart a new course. In this Research Insights, Dr. Parry demonstrates how IBI’s various benefits databases can be tapped to model full costs by industry, in this case a 45,000 employee specialty manufacturer. In this model, benefits payments represent only 30% of full costs and group health costs are only about 1/3rd the costs of health-related lost productivity from absence and presenteeism.
