This whitepaper discusses the critical components to address in the development and implementation of an absence management program. The approach described reviews how to build an absence management program from the employee life cycle perspective. This includes reviewing all practices, policies and procedures that are associated with hiring, onboarding, training/engagement and working with employees that have a medical disruption in their work life. The employee life cycle approach acknowledges that absence management begins at the time of employee recruitment and selection through any illness/injury they may experience. The paper also emphasizes the importance of data driven solution development and the critical aspects of integration between internal functions and external vendor partners. Case studies are provided to demonstrate the value of an integrated, holistic approach to building an Integrated Absence Management program.
